Do you like mysteries? If you do, I think you will love this mystery because the author really gives you a chance to solve the mystery yourself!
Picture Walk Prediction:
This is a flip book with two mysteries for the price of one! Cool! After looking at the cover and the pictures, I think that this will be a mystery about a mysterious envelope that some students receive. The students, acting as detectives, will crack the "code" and figure out who sent the envelope and that solves the mystery. I think the main characters will be a boy, a girl and their teacher. The setting will be mostly school. The problem will be that the students were sent an envelope and the solution will be related to cracking the code.

Chapter 1:
I think it is so interesting that Mr. Merlin is a spy and tells the students. I guess it is lucky that Amber Lee had a mystery for him to solve. Why do they have to solve that code? I tried to solve it and I couldn't. Can you? Are you enjoying the story so far? I really am. I'm curious to see what happens.
Background: Do you know how to tell time on an analog clock?
Chapter 2:
I figured out that you have to look at the middle and start at noon, just like a real clock. Do you know what the code is?
Background: Do you know what saliva is?
Chapter 3: Are they really going to analyze saliva? That's what they do in a real laboratory?
Background: Do you know what "trial and error" means?
Chapter 4:I think Todd sent the envelope because he doesn't want to investigate anymore. I think he is the one that sent the
envelope! I can't figure out how Noelle and Todd thought they would solve the case by waving envelopes.
Background: Do you ever watch detective shows? Do you know the parts of an envelope (flap, etc)? Are you right or left-handed?
Chapter 5: Ewww! That's disgusting when the saliva and glass goes all over the floor! What question would you ask at the end of the chapter?
Background: Can you lick an envelpe? Do you start on the right or left side?
Chapter 6: I love how they show Noelle puzzling through the thinking process. I think that is important for students to see!

Chapter 7: How do you think Noelle feels about Amber Lee? Why do you think that? I think it so interesting that there is more saliva where the person starts licking. Do you agree that more gets doe when you work together?
Background: Do you know what a "suspect" is? What does it mean to "let down your guard"?
Chapter 8: Do you think Leon sent the letter? Why or why not? I would really like to be a detective because I would enjoy figuring things out. Would you?
Chapter 9: Would you like to have a teacher like Mr. Merlin? Why or why not?
